Stappiamo una bolla.

My mother always says she’s never met a wine she didn’t like. I always laugh and disagree. But, I have to admit, since arriving in Italy, I swear I haven’t sipped a wine I didn’t enjoy. Wait. Am I turning into my mother?!?

Let’s not jump to conclusions…

Maybe it’s because I’m smack dab in the center of the world of wine and I can’t go wrong. Or, perhaps it’s because I’m fortunate to be surrounded by a few sommeliers who make most of my vino selections. It could also be that I’m completely relaxed and am just enjoying the ride (Seriously people – life is much, much sweeter this way…I promise!) But likely, it’s a little of all three.

As for the turning into your mother thing, that shit really happens as much as we all hate to admit it. Every time I’m hanging out with my besties and I start a sentence with “GIRL! You know…”, I cringe. It’s like my mom has taken over my body.

But I digress…

I thought it would be fun to give you a glimpse at some of the amazing vino and champagne I’ve been privileged to drink so far on my mid-life retirement abroad. The ever-so-sweet, patient and talented Cippo is doing some homework to let me know which, if any, I can purchase in the U.S. Of course, you can get really nice wine here for dirt cheap, although many of the bottles you’ll see in the photos below were NOT dirt cheap. I was just fortunate to be at the right place, at the right time, with very generous hosts. If any of this is actually available for purchase back home, that doesn’t mean I’ll be able to afford the price point attached to it.

So, in the meantime, I’m going to drink every glass as if it were my last. Sip. Savor. Repeat.
(It’s not a bad philosophy for life…I suggest you adopt it yourself. Go on! Give it a try. What’s the worst thing that could happen…The dishes don’t get done immediately after dinner?)

And, Mom, you are a beautiful, intelligent, witty, kind, open spirit and I’d be crazy not to want to be like you.  But, I hope you already knew that.

Salute, i miei amici!

(These aren’t the greatest pics in the world…they’re all from the iPhone and not my Nikon)

My darling girl all daughters feel for a time that the worse thing would be is to be like their mother. I loved your comments as I love you. Think of me when you have your next glass of vino. Mama

I know that Barbera was pricey!! But back to the tagliatelle…OMG.
Looks like you’re enjoying the best of Italy – keep it up. xoxo
